The Problem We Saw
Across the UK, millions of people work in insecure, low-paid, or unregulated jobs. Taxi drivers working long hours with no sick pay. Delivery riders who don't know their employment status. Nail technicians and barbers working cash-in-hand with no protections. Warehouse workers facing unsafe conditions with nowhere to turn. These people form a vital part of our economy — but they are often isolated, exploited, and invisible to mainstream support services.
Our Community Interest Statement
Roots & Rights Community Interest Company exists to advance the social and economic wellbeing of the community by supporting individuals from lower income and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. We focus particularly on those working in insecure, low-paid, or unregulated professions, including taxi and delivery drivers, motor trade and warehouse workers, and cash-in-hand beauty practitioners. We recognise that these individuals form a vital part of the local economy.
What We Do About It
Our activities provide holistic support to address the documented needs of these individuals, many of whom are self-employed and lack awareness of their legal rights and obligations. By empowering them with knowledge, resources, and advocacy, we aim to reduce exploitation, improve working conditions, and ensure they can contribute safely and fairly to the economy. This work benefits not just the individuals directly, but enhances community welfare and promotes a more equitable marketplace for all.
